Mrs. Melanie Mundell received the Delaware Bio Science Educator of the Year Award at the Delaware Bio Science 2016 Annual Awards at the DuPont Country Club in April.
In accepting her award, Mrs. Mundell was joined by leaders from industry, academia, government, and medical research institutions.
Mrs. Mundell, a long-time 7th grade science teacher at NCS before accepting the challenge to pioneer the high school’s biotechnology pathway in 2013, and her students have garnered both state and national recognition in biotech competitions. She is the FFA advisor and, this fall, five of her high school biotechnology students earned a trip to the national FFA competition. All five placed in the top 10 in their events and one placed 2nd in the nation.
“I am excited that our biotechnology program has received recognition, particularly since the program is so young,” said Mrs. Mundell. “There is so much more that I want to develop,” she added.
