Junior Class advisors Mrs. Sapna Setty and Ms. Tami Lunsford worked with the entire high school staff and a wonderful group of parent volunteers to create a memorable evening for the 2016 Junior Prom at Deerfield Country Club, followed by the After-Prom party at NCHS.

The After-Prom committee, led by parent volunteer Mrs. Rachelle Hawtof, transformed NCHS into sidewalk cafes, games, Nerf wars, moon bounces, Twister, movies, and an incredible hypnotist performance that wowed staff, parents, and students.  Together, traditions were created and memories of a perfect night will last a lifetime.

The school’s first Prom was a safe and positive experience for all.  The SmartDrive Foundation, Inc., whose mission is to reduce loss of life in senseless motor vehicle crashes, praised NCHS as having the highest percentage of students in the region participating in the SmartDrive program.  A remarkable 93% of Newark Charter’s high school students signed a promise to come home safely from the prom.  The organization presented the Junior Prom Committee with a “ceremonial check” during its Driving With Intelligence program on April 22nd.  The $500 award helped to offset costs of the Prom/After- Prom event expenses.

“We are pleased to see such positive student participation. I believe it is due to the great work of our advisors to promote a mindset of smart choices for our inaugural Prom,” said Dr. Ueltzhoffer.
