Mission

Our mission as a counseling department is to provide a comprehensive, age appropriate, and sequential school counseling program that aligns with the American School Counseling Association’s national standards.

The program at Newark Charter Jr/Sr High School focuses on supporting all aspects of the student experience at NCS: academic development, personal/social development, and career development.

 

Counselor Assignment

Students with last names from A-Kra are assigned to Mrs. Penny Halfen.

Students with the last names from Kris-Z are assigned to Mrs. Kris O’Connor.

Any student can meet with Mr. Mitchell to discuss college and career plans.

How to Schedule a Meeting

If you would like to meet with your counselor, you can download this form or fill one out in the main office. Please indicate the reason for your visit (e.g. academic, personal, etc.) and leave the form in the guidance bin located on the counter in front of the secretaries. Make sure to clearly print your name and the date.

Important Forms

Drop/Add form – This form available here (or in the main office) must be filled out completely in order to have your request considered. Student, parent/guardian and teacher signatures are required, and the form should be turned in to the guidance bin in the main office.
Block form – This form available here (or in the main office) must be filled out by students who wish to have an AM or PM block. This form must also be signed by a parent/guardian.
Teacher Assistant Form – This form is only given out by the counselors and cannot be accessed online. Please see your counselor to obtain the TA form.
Meeting Request Form – This form is available here (or in the main office) and must be submitted to the guidance bin in the main office.
