Patriot Profiles - “King” Andre Gee

He doesn't simply go by Mr. Gee. Rather, he's affectionately known as “King Andre“ by thousands of NCS students. Why? Because Andre Gee, custodian in the Primary School, famously dresses in a cape and crown to play King Ferdinand of Spain during the annual early explorers and settlers' unit. A tradition that started over a decade ago in Ms. Cowgill's first grade classroom, King Andre plays the role of King Ferdinand and interacts with students as they pretend to convince him to finance their 1492 voyage.

Andre has worked at Newark Charter School for 15 years and has enjoyed watching the Primary School students grow and graduate from Newark Charter School. His own children have also attended Newark Charter School! "It's all about the kids," says King Andre. "Nothing is better than watching the kids grow up and come back and visit. Even the kids during the Patriot Walk were cheering for King Andre this year. That's special. That's family."

Our students, staff, families, and visitors often comment that our facilities are clean and safe. It is the tireless efforts and dedication of the facilities team – with King Andre as a key member of that team – that makes our school so special.

Thank you, King Andre, for making our students and our buildings shine!
